Fautsches (Faules) Viertel

In former times, the Vogt, reeve, who was the custodian of Lorsch Abbey was located in this quarter of the town. The residential quarter was named after him, “Fautsches Viertel”. This term derives from the word Faut = Vogt, reeve. Today, the colloquial term is “Faules Viertel”.
One of the most important buildings to be found in Heppenheim, is the so-called “Stelzenhaus”, which dates back to the 17th century. Most likely, it used to be the house of a blacksmith.
The house, which is located right next to the Konservatorium, conservatory, used to be the poorhouse of the city. Remarkable framework structure can be admired here.
