Museum für Stadtgeschichte und Volkskunde (Museum of Local History and Folklore)

The museum is located in the Kurmainzer Amtshof (tithe house), one of the oldest buildings in the town of Heppenheim. The exhibition areas present local history and folklore with the aim of using the museum for educational purposes. Frequently changing special exhibits complement the permanent exhibition.

A supporting programme of changing special exhibits, lectures, readings, film screenings with small art and special promotional days complements and broadens the museum’s cultural activities.

School classes, children’s and youth groups can take the opportunity to experience the museum in guided tours, quizzes and role games, project days as well as by using the small cinema and the Schaumagazin display room for learning and working purposes.

Companies, clubs and associations can use the museum’s rooms for receptions, presentations and meetings in a sophisticated atmosphere. Visitors can also take a tour of the Kurfürstensaal (Elector’s State Hall) in the Amtshof, with its Gothic angel fresco and wall frescoes from the Renaissance era, by appointment.
